France welcomes the decision taken by consensus of the 57 participating States of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to appoint Mr. Harlem Désir as the representative of the Organization for Freedom of the Media, Of 19 July 2017.

EUROPE / OSCE - APPOINTMENT OF MR HARLEM DESIR TO THE REPRESENTATIVE FOR MEDIA FREEDOM OF THE ORGANIZATION FOR SECURITY AND COOPERATION IN EUROPE-------------------------------------------------- France welcomes the decision taken by consensus of the 57 participating States of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to appoint Mr. Harlem Désir as the representative of the Organization for Freedom of the Media, Of 19 July 2017.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The OSCE is an international organization bringing together all the states of the European continent as well as the United States, Canada, the Central Asian Republics and Mongolia, which works for stability, peace and democracy. Its areas of competence include cooperation in political, military, economic and environmental fields, as well as numerous commitments in the field of human rights, democratization and the rule of law. Created in 1994 following the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe and based in Vienna, decisions are taken by consensus of the 57 participating states on the permanent council or the ministerial council which meets annually. Its activities are implemented by the secretariat, the field missions and the three autonomous institutions: the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the High Commissioner for National Minorities and the Representative for Freedom of media.------------------------------------------------- France takes this opportunity to welcome the appointments of Mr Thomas Greminger as Secretary General, Mrs Ingibjörg Gisladottir as the new Director of the ODIHR and Mr Lamberto Zannier as High Commissioner for National Minorities. France will continue to give its full support to the activities of the OSCE and its institutions, including full respect for their mandate, autonomy and resources. Source: french Ministry of Europe
